The ultrasound scanner US-500 proposes eye biometric analyses, and particularly the axial length, thanks to the ultrasound technology in mode echo-A. The option US-4000P is, in addition, equipped with a probe dedicated to measuring the thickness of the cornea, the pachymetry.
The US-500 is an independent compact ultrasound scanner, with a tilting touchscreen, dedicated to biometry and ultrasound eye imaging.
Thanks to the high-frequency ultrasound beam reflected by the differences of composition of the different eye structures, the US-500 can measure the biometric dimensions of the eyeball: axial length, depth of the anterior chamber. It is frequently used in case of medium opacity, ocular inflammation, haemorrhage or tumour, as, in these cases, the light beams of optical biometers and of usual imaging devices, particularly slit lamps, are limited.
Finally the results can be directly printed using the integrated thermal printer, saved to the internal memory or exported to an external device, USB drive or computer.
In echo-A mode, the biometric lengths are essential to calculate the power of intraocular lenses (IOL’s). This calculation is automatically performed by the US-500 depending on the values collected and using the different formulas saved to the device.

The model US-4000 P proposes the pachymetry option. If so, it is equipped with a probe dedicated to the measurement of the cornea thickness. This probe is designed to directly apply on the cornea. This datum is important for all surgeries having consequences on the cornea, and is used to correct the intraocular pressure readings, considering the strength of the cornea.
